woohoo... lets see some new products..

maybe the will change the apple logo?

EDIT1: UK Store says "back within the hour" - it's now 13:15 (BST) - anyone confirm when it first was noticed to be down?

EDIT2: The OP's time was 12:21, so it's coming up to almost an hour since original post - that's not to say store was not down before that!!

My reliable sources say today Apple will be updating the Apple logo to be a rainbow with vertical stripes!

Based on the spacing between the optical drive slot and the latch button, I think it's reasonably safe to say that's a photo of a 15'' MBP, and therefore the image is fake.

.. Not to say 17'' MBPs won't be announced today.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Given that I know what I saw and that it's not a fake, I'm happy to take bets right now... :)

I tried calling our UK store to buy a laptop. Asked what was available and was told I might want to wait a bit before buying. Who knows?

There's something odd about that image OziMac. Now, I'm not saying that you didn't see it, far from it.

I think Apple may have altered the image a bit. Look at the reflection of the optical drive. The slot in the reflection appears to be at the base of the front strip but on the actual machine the slot is near the top.

If you reflect the laptop there should be a gap between the real slot and the reflected slot. If you reflect the reflection the two slots would be close together.

It just looks weird.

i was going to do the same thing..

so maybe this does look like new product(s).. as long as it (they) as not "fun new products", then it's very promising..

OK, it's now 10:07pm Mon 24/4/06. If the store is not back up by 11:07pm I'm going to start throwing lawyers.

Seriously Apple, a man needs his sleep and if this is going to be another 2am night waiting for something at least tell me.

See, MWSF kicks off at 4am my time every year and I don't care because I know that it starts then. Leaving the "we'll be back within the hour" sign up is just plain cruel.

:) Agreed. But now Apple seems to do things when its ready not when an event necessarily occurs, so we could be in luck...

Apple adds the reflections digitally afterwards, as evidence by the photo in the MacBook Pro gallery where the reflection doesnt include the IR sensor.

hours up isn't it? stores still down.. i got 2 tabs reloading in firefox with us and uk stores :p

Maybe once in the last 5 years have I seen the store back up in less than an hour.

OOI WHY do they need to take the store down to add new products when other online vendors (Amazon etc) can seemingly manage to add new products, sections etc?

Serious question btw.

I think Apple have a real sense of occasion and it's part of that.

Well, it's already been more than an hour.

Well I just tided my study today, nice clean desk now, and have some extra cash which I think I will spend on the next rev of the iMac or a PowerMac if they have a well priced entry model - so I am trying to not get worked up about this "maintenance" ;)

Fair call Chundles. The more I look at it, the more odd it looks - and I do agree about the aspect ratio looking a bit off. But that's what I saw, so I did what any intrepid Machead would do and snapped it and posted it. ;)

I found it on the Finnish (Suomi?) site just after it went down. I tried to refresh but it went back to the landing pad. Maybe they screwed with me somehow, but I can tell you that I'm not capable of producing an image like that myself.

Fingers crossed :)

Someone else in a different thread posted the same image, so I guess it was legit afterall. Sorry for doubting you.
