UK Villagers up in arms over Google Street View

I don't understand the upset some people clearly feel over Street View. It's a static image that will normally end up being quite dated by the time it's used, and it's a picture taken from a public road. Freaks.
A deeper sense of frustration with life which they express by freaking out about relatively trivial crap. Maybe they feel complaining about the more trivial crap will have more of an impact than complaining about the bigger problems which by all rights should be complained about but prove ultimately futile. Tis human nature, innit?
If they had any sense they'd realise all images are out of date by a good few months

I think a lot of the upset in this country has been tabloid fueled. The Daily Mail etc had probably never heard of Streetview until it went live.

I think the majority of people complaining about this service haven't bothered to find out that actually:
GSV Blocks faces - meaning people cannot see what people are up too, nor can the police use it as evidence for anything "naughty" caught on camera

I don't think it's GSV per se they are protesting at, more the growing lack of privacy within the UK. It is now impossible to make a call, use the internet, send an email or even walk to the shops with out you actions being recorded or logged.
The complaining regarding this has been unprecedented - it's crazy.
As has been said, it blocks numberplates. One newspaper had an article about a columnist whose wife was livid her car numberplate wasn't blocked. After reading the article, I took my lunch break, and probably saw 200 car numberplates.
Not one person complained.

I've never understood it. Pics of my house just went up (2 and a half years old) and I was more interested than outraged. It's nothing you can't see from the street (obviously) so what's the problem?

Unless the laws in the UK are substantially different, my understanding is that the majority of roads are public, and as such, if one cares to photographs something from the road, there's not much that can be done about it. In any case, I think these folks are being a little paranoid and self-righteous about the whole matter. They've been burglarized in the area three times in six weeks, and this is without anything Google-related. Seems like the problem isn't Google, it's a lack of proper home security and policing in the first place.
Personally, if it were me, I'd drop by and photograph every house from the public right-of-way and post them here just to piss them off, but that's how I roll.

I should know better, but
my first thought was that Google was developing a car.
I still wonder if they'll ever make public the shooting schedule, either satellite or land vehicle based. Maybe one would be motivated to clean up the yard, wash the car, tan naked...

I was going to ask what the Google car looks like. Then I Googled it (!). Man, that thing looks creepy.
