Any of you local to the East Midlands are probably familiar with our tiny Highcross store, which I knew was one of the smallest remaining stores in the UK but I had a very interesting conversation with an employee in there today.

Whilst picking up my fiancé’s new Apple Watch I happened to mention how small the Highcross store was these days, as it’s always totally packed in there.

He said it was now the smallest store in the UK and that it would be a shame to miss any opportunity to move into a bigger unit. At this point he gestured towards the section of the centre which is being renovated, and will include many new stores.

I took that as a confirmation that Apple Highcross will be moving into a larger unit in the near future but that’s as yet officially unconfirmed. Of course, there’s a chance the employees have no idea about the store plans but if the move is confirmed there’s every chance they’ve been told. It also seems like they’ve been hiring a load of extra staff recently so this could point in that direction too.

It’s exciting that we may finally be getting a decently sized, new design store in Leicester.

Thoughts?

Ps. I hope I haven’t gotten anyone in trouble! The guy who dealt with our sale was the loveliest chap and it was actually refreshing to talk to an Apple Store employee who spoke like a human. He was happy to talk about both the benefits and flaws of various Apple products we discussed.

Edit: Recently released concept art suggests there will be a big, glass-fronted unit that looks out onto the main street. I couldn't think of a better unit for an Apple store. It seems too obvious. See below.
