I've been reading a ton of this so called "ultraportable" laptop that is "incredibly thin", etc etc.

But, my question is, how durable will an ultraportable be if it's thin? It seems like something like this will be incredibly fragile as well.

What are your thoughts?

A few of my friends who have macbooks comment on the ease of breaking for macbook's already. Will this issue be more with ultrathin laptops?

I'm sure you remember the razor thin and tight spaces of the older PowerBook 12". Aluminium was/is a dent magnet but a plastic body should resist them which much more grace.

Don't forget the chance to use a SSD hard drive as well.

I do not on a Macbook (I have a MBP), but my brother has a Macbook and he carries it to school everyday and it is still in mint condition. It seems to be very durable as long as you treat it good.

I treat my macbook like a baby, But it is a nuisance when I want a fun laptop to carry around without worries, So this new laptop would be my desktop and the macbook would be my carry around laptop.

I heard it's being made of adamantium

If it is similar to the resistance of the 12'' Powerbook, then it'll be resistant as hell. A friend of mine had one of those, and god, it was indestructible.

Well the way I look at it, the ultra thin macbook/ pro if it actually is coming can't be much worse than the macbook already is for durability. I will consider one (assuming it does actually get released) if

1. it has better batter life than the macbook
2. it has a keyboard other than the macbook chicklet pos keyboard
3. it is priced under 2000 dollars

re: macbook pos keyboard?

i like the macbook keyboard.
i think its simple and elegant.
i like the clean simplicity of how it level with the rest and the same color.

It looks nice enough, I just don't like the key design for typing, nor the sharp edge of the palm wrist.

Imagine a powerbook, but more durable. Or if the materials are like the mb, then still relatively durable, just not as much. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it. ;)

LOL:) poor Chipy, R.I.P, she did finally died after that many falls(yeah she's the one he is talking about). Actually just the hdd died, its amazing how resilient is the aluminum in MBP and PB.
