Um....yeah BT has gone AWOL

So i was mousing normally on my mac and all of a sudden the mouse stops scrolling initially and then completely stops. So i look up at the bluetooth icon and it has a squigly line across it

So i've had to unbox the Mighty mouse to do my mousing and found out that Bluetooth is no longer available and is not present in system preferences. The thing has just disappeared.

Please help

You can try 3 things. First you can simply do a PRAM reset. Restart the computer and and wait for the chime then hold down on the keys "command, option, P R. Wait for the chime again and let go of the keys and allow the system to restart. Check and see if the bluetooth icon has restored.

2nd option. Reset the Open Firmware. Same procedure as above but hold down command, option O F. A boot screen will appear and type "reset-nvram" hit return then type "reset-all". Make sure to type in the hyphens. Let the Mac restart.

Lastly do an Archive and Install to replace the system folder and that should fix it.

This just happened on my 12" powerbook. I read a tech note about removing the battery for a few minutes. It worked for a day, then I had to do it again. It's worked since then.

Maybe try unplugging it for a while? I don't know if the internal battery on an iMac supplies some power to everything or just the clock. If they have an internal batery... I've never owned one so I may just be making this part up (-;

So i trashed the BT preferences and did a PRAM reset whilst rebooting and everything seems fine now.

Oops, my bad. I just got my first Intel Mac after years of PowerPC machines which used Open Firmware. Thanks for the heads up.

Intel Macs don't use Open Firmware.

Intel based Macs use EFI or Extensible Firmware Interface. This was created to be a modern replacement for the "BIOS" used by Windoz PC's (Microsoft doesn't support it yet except for their 64 bit version!)
