I have no idea how this happened. I ordered a glossy screen. It was definitely MATTE last night. I can tell the difference. Woke up this morning and it is glossy  Is this even possible? And no .. I can tel the difference. The screen is crisper this morning .. there is definitely more reflection .. it became glossy

I'm not sure how much I like it yet .. but thats another thread. Can anyon explain this change to me?

Maybe post a shot of the screen? Maybe the stress of waiting for a third machine was too much? ;)

Ah Apple's lawyers must have broken into your house overnight after reading your last post and swapped it!

On a more serious note, at least Apple did give you what you ordered. :)

It's almost certainly the lighting. How's the lighting arranged in your room? Do you have your back to the window? In that case, at night you wouldn't have a light source behind you, but you would in the morning.

My wife's MacBook is definitely a glossy screen - MacBook's don't come any other way - but the way we have our study arranged, she faces the window and doesn't have any lamps behind her.

We can't see any reflections at all on it, no matter what angle we sit at.

hmmm. Night vs. day makes a big difference unless you work in a windowless dungeoun. Wait until tonight when the lighting conditions are the same, and see....

Hahahaha

eV, when I got my 17" MBP I thought the screen was glossy as well (The 17" matte screen has the glossy look whereas with the 15" MBP you can completely distinguish between the two finishes).

This was mine when I received it (it looks much shinier in person). The finish does have that glossy appearance but you notice that it definitely isn't glossy after an hour or so of INITIAL use.

No. I don't know this officially, but no. Not a chance.

And to the OP: Unless it's possessed by gloss-demons, your screen was glossy from the start. From what I've read (can't be 100% sure, as I have a matte) the glossy screens still aren't "high polish"--sort of a compromise position to prevent huge glare--so it probably just looked matte at night when there wasn't a lot of ambient glare and the brightness was lower (I'm assuming here that you've got the ambient light sensor automatically adjusting the brightness).

Exactly how many machines have you been through at this point?

From what I remember, 2 or 3 15" MBP's and 2 17" MBP's. So if I'm not mistaken this is either your 5th or 6th machine. That's got to be a record.

Believe it or not, my record is:

3 15" MBPs
2 17" MBPs

RMA for a 3rd one...I am waiting until the last day to ship it out hoping the display issue will be resolved (uneven illumination...check my other posts if you want more info).

You've either a) lost your mind b) are somehow under the influence of narcotics or c) built in RDF generator finally kicked in. (I hear there is a problem with these as well, they over-applied the distortion paste which causes the RDF to kick in only in cases of extreme reality)

Did you get AppleCare Plus? With AppleCare Plus your Mac knows if something is wrong and calls Apple by itself. Within an hour a team of ninja goblins from Apple's payroll appears and fixes everything sometimes upgrading things that didn't need to be upgraded. They won't show up if you're watching though.
