I have a file in my trash bin which I think refers to a previous user profile I used on an old Mac. I deleted this profile through system preferences and only my current user profile appears there, but emptying the bin will not allow me to delete whats in there. How can I get rid of this (without getting all tecchy!)

I have a 2020 MBP running Catalina 10.15.6

Open the trash, press command-key I-key on the file. In the file info window at the bottom, click on the padlock and enter your admin password. Change the permission for everyone to Read & Write. Now try to empty the trash.

Try logging out and log back in. Try emptying the trash. If that does not work, restart the computer.

one other thing would be to start in safe mode and see if you can delete it. Looks like some process may have the file open...

Just a suggestion.

Restart in recovery mode (Command R) then go to Terminal then enter "csrutil disable;reboot" then restart in normal then empty trash then reboot in Recovery Mode then enter csrutil enable then reboot normal.
