Hello. I have a Mac Studio with Bell Fibe router/modem. I am unable to set my ethernet to accept the 10gbe option. I am not a guru. I do know that the modem is putting out 3.3 gig but can only get 940ishMB. There is nothing except the cable from the modem to the ethernet port. I tried Cat 7 and Cat 8 with no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible you compare 10 GigaBit with 940 MegaByte?
Since 1 Byte = 8 Bit, this would give 10 GigaBit vs 940 MegaByte = approx. 1 GigaByte = approx 8 GigaBit.
Did I screw up?

Thank you for your answer. I erred. I am receiving 940Mb download and not the 3.3Gb download that I have subscribed to.

What is the port on your router rated?

5GbE?

"I do know that the modem is putting out 3.3 gig"

How do you know this?

It's a real thing that not all interfaces negotiate the rate of the other interfaces to which they are connected.

There are a lot of low-cost "10GbE" switches that negotiate either at 1GbE, or 10GbE (they do not respond at-all to 2.5GbE or 5GbE).

Do you happen to have a 10GbE switch handy, for testing ;)

This being said, I can safely say that my '23 M2 Studio's '10GbE' can definitely negotiate a 2.5GbE, as well as a 10GbE link . . . I have nothing with 5GbE, so I cannot speak for that.

Thanks for the advice. The modem that came with Fibe from Bell has an LCD display which tells me numerous Tidboits of info. It states that the speed is 3.3Gb. Also as u know, the Mac Studio M2 has a 10gb port. So I only have aCat 7 cable from the modem to the back of my Mac. I have tried every possibility in the Ethernet setup (Hardware) and cannot get a handshake. It stays consistently at 940Mb when I check using Speedtest no matter what speed I set the ethernet to. Obviously I am doing something wrong.

Which modem is it and what are the specs. It could be that 3.3Gb is the WAN speed, while the LAN ports each only support 1Gbps. I tried look up what it could be and found this little review, where there is “only” one 10Gbps port, while the others are 1Gbps.

Thank you for your Review of the Bell Modem 4000. That is the same model. After reading your review, I had an epiphany. I never realized that the silver port was the 10gbe port. So I plugged in my Cat7 cable from the computer to the silver port and immediately my download went from 940Mb to 3.1Gb. Thank you sir. It would have been nice if Bell had left me instructions Thank you again!

Are you plugged in to the correct port on the modem? I had my 10g internet plugged in to the regular port and was getting slow speeds.

Thank you I discovered that was indeed the issue. I never knew that the silver port was for the 10Gb until a person explained to me the various ports. Indeed I was plugged into one of the yellow ports which was why I was only getting the 940Mb. It would have been nice for Bell to include instructions on the modem/router. Thank you for taking the time to solve my issue.
