Hello there,

I just received the latest 14" MBP (M1 Pro) and upgraded to MacOS Monterey. So far so good. But now I want to add my scanner (HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1) and I cannot find a way to do it. In System report it sees the scanner under connected USB devices, but when I try to add scanner via Printers and Scanners in System preferences, the list is empty. I tried even VueScan and it also doesn't recognize any scanner connected. I tried to reach for HP and download their HP Easy Start app (with filtering drivers for MacOS 12, the release date is October 27th, so I assume it should work), which sees the scanner, but cannot install any drivers.

Any suggestions what am I missing? Does anybody else have the same problem?

Thanks.

In macOS 11 Apple removed all scanner drivers and it is possible that there isn't a real driver for your scanner, especially none which is ported to Apple ARM's processors yet. Even the driver for my Canon LiDE 220 are not ported to ARM yet. It is a annoying situation!

P.S. I used to own one HP scanner in the past, the driver only worked with HP's own software, which was reason I replaced it, because OCRed PDF files created with that software crashed my printer. (Never really found out why)

I have the same issue. Deskjet 2500 is not found by Mac Image Capture software. HP virtual support was worthless, going around in circles. Any news on this?

Hi there, unfortunately no progress at all. Have tried HP support as well, but it was waste of time. Have also tried virtualized Windows via Parallels, but it also is not able to find any scanner. It is a real bummer.

Thanks for following up. I bought this scanner 18 months ago for my remote pandemic home office with the understanding Apple would support it. So now I guess it's a large paperweight...Very disappointing Apple decisions on deleting the drivers from newer OS. I've been using Macs since the "first toaster" and thought we had gotten past inter-company rivalries!

Vuescan's website confirms actively updating and having been running smoothly on M1 macs... NOT TRUE. I've downloaded the appropriate version following their directions. Although according to the error message on my mac "being able to see the scanner" it mentions not having the right plugin and that being one of INTEL processors. How half-assed backward does this Hamrick guy get? The last time I checked in with him I received the stupidest most arrogant reply and he did not help me. I paid for the pro version a couple of years back. So for now I have to live with the childish Epson software with joe-blow results. Anyone else?

My last screen capture about the lost page - I don't need help with. The two others show you the messages I get. While the Epson app runs like a charm.

@Tenderflake - Epson has a new ICA driver for your scanner dated 8/4/2022 that may solve your problems. Give it a try and please report back.
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to help but I had already tried downloading both recent Epson drivers this morning before publishing my comment... :(

Have you tried contacting Epson Support then? They may be able to provide some insight into what's going on.

Also, the ICA driver is to allow MacOS to work with the scanner using Preview and the ImageCapture app. Have you tried those to determine if they can access the scanner?
