Unable to adjust Mac Book Air Screen Brightness: MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

I did an updated to masOS Monterey Ver 12.7.6 and can no longer adjust my sceen brightness. Tried in System Preferences and not able to there either. Anyone know whats going on. Thanks for any help.

In the meantime if I quickly close the lid and reopen it, I can adjust it normally. Must be a bug in in this latest update.
