Hello,

I have an iPhone X which I was able to back up through iTunes on the MacBook Pro 2014 model, but it fails to back up on my new MacBook Pro 2018 model. I get this error (also attached a screenshot).
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "iPhone". Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings"

I am using the latest version of iTunes and iOS as of now, but the error was the same in older versions as well.

The problem is that if I restore, I will lose all data and configurations. Is there a way to overcome this error? I tried to Google for this error in vain.

Avoid using iTunes for anything if possible. It's horrible. Back up to iCloud. It's a much better method.

Maybe change another cable?
Also are both MacBooks using the same version of iTunes?

I have tried changing cables in vain. I've sold off the old MacBook now. Yes, they were on the same version.

Have you tried rebooting the phone and rebooting the computer?

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my iPhone to the latest iOS and had to fiddle around until I got the “trust this computer” dialogue and clicked OK

Not sure it’s the same issue but just thought I’d throw that out there

that's frustrating !

I hate this type of apple warning / dialogue that has only one choice - the oK button!

"Would you like to reformat your phoine and loose all you info?" - how about a cancel button apple?

SOLVED :) - This was such a simple fix, I am surprised Apple support had no idea about it. You just have to delete a file called iTunesCDB from the Apple filesystem. I used a free software called iExplorer for the same. All thanks to this guy
