Unable to boot Norton emergency CD

I not sure if anyone has notice this:

On the current up to date of OSX 10.3.3 and Norton Systemworks 3, I now cannot boot up the Norton Sys CD as an Emergency CD.

All I want to do is use the defrag and speed disk. Now I get a gray window saying I need to press the power button to turn off the computer at startup.

This problem happen after the last security update and iTune and Quicktime update and the last Norton Liveupdate on the 8th of May.

Anyone know? please let me know asap.

The most likely reason is that the version of MacOS X 10.x on your Emergency CD does not support your machine. This is a problem with emergency disks from most vendors, even the AppleCare CD. However, running fsck in single-user mode works great and is probably the most effective thing that you can do to get your Mac back into good working order.

Try resetting the PRAM (hold command+option+R+P at startup until you hear it start again) This usually works. Are you sure it is OS 10.3.3 on the boot disk? If not, you can order atest boot disks from Symantec.

The problem is Norton Utilities. If you wanna defrag get Disk Warrior and if you wanna "Speed" up your disk (which I assume is delete cache files) use Cocktail. And I would say that defragging is unnecessary since I defrag like every two months and I've never had over 4% defragmentaion.

Avoid Norton Utilities like the plague, yeah isn't it being discontinued since it was so buggy?

Well looking into the Norton website I found this:

looks like every norton users will have this problem...

I did a fsck -fn last night and I get back message saying that my HD is ok.
Run on Norton Doc and I get lots of errors, try the tech tool delx from Applecare and Disk Warrior both don't work now..
the last thing I did was using Onyx and clean some cache out.

well please post here if anyone found a way to do a bootcd of OSX 10.3.3 with Norton Utl on it or with Disk Warrior.

I manage to get a replacement CD for Norton Systemworks 3 from Norton in Australia.
Call this number 1800 680 026 for Aus, 9am to 5pm and they will guide you through there. Thanks

Norton may be the gold standard in the Windoze world, but it is not necessary for Mac OS X. Panther already does a good job defragging in the background. Running something like MacJanitor and repairing disk permissions once in a while is all the maintenance you really need (and both can be done for free).

Using anything labeled Norton is a good way to screw up your Mac. Norton sucks.

I also forbit people to run Norton on PCs I fix. Stating they prolly eat children or something. Anyway, as stated Macs do not need these so called "Emergency CDs." Doing so will create another emergency.
