iPod unable to burn data disk

I'm trying to burn a data disk in itunes and get this error message
is there something seriously wrong
Hard to say what the problem is. Can you burn a disc from the Finder? Is this only happening with CDs or DVDs?
I recently replaced my wife's Superdrive on her Macbook because the CD laser stopped working. It would read any CDs, but the DVD burner/reader worked.
Took it as an opportunity to put in a Dual-Layer burner in there. Much faster as well.
