I was initially planning on traveling to CA later this week and secured a launch day store pickup of my new iPhone 15 Pro Max; however, some changes have occurred and now I will not be traveling to CA. I've contacted Apple Support via Chat and they are saying they can't change the store pickup location from CA to NC (which is where I live) and the only option they can provide would be to cancel the order entirely and have me place a new order which obviously stinks given it's now a 3-4 week lead time on the model I selected.

So that brings me to my question - any suggestions on what's best to do? I can go through with the cancel / re-order but didn't know if it's worth checking in with my local Apple store on Friday to see if they have some available for pickup that weren't pre-ordered but wasn't sure if they got an extras in typically. Thoughts / suggestions / tricks?

They will eventually cancel your order if you failed to pick it up. What you can do is either:
  • Hold the order in case you might have another change in plan. Check the app early Friday morning to see if there are inventory. They should have stock either for walk-in or online orders. If you score one, you can cancel the CA pickup order.
  • Identify a trustworthy person who can pick up your order, adjust the pick up person, and have the person ship it to you.
  • Worst case, cancel the CA pickup and wait for the next available inventory you can get one after launch date.
