Unable to connect 24 LG UltraFine to Mac mini

I'm having trouble connecting my 2014 Mac mini to my new 24" 2019 LG ultrafine. I have the lighting to USB-C adapter but it still doesn’t work. Is the 2014 mac mini compatible with this monitor?

You need a Mac that has USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 natively for this display to work. The 2014 Mini is not one of those computers.

...which ought to include the Mini.

A lightning adapter is irrelevant here. Do you mean the Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter? That should work according to the Apple article.

I have one and it doesn't work.
