Ok so I have an 8+; not quite a year old yet. It has a possible speaker issue that I plan on taking it to the Apple Store for. So I'm backing up my pictures from my phone to my external hard drive. Yes they are backed up online but still it never hurts.

So I start copying and it works fine for the first group of pictures. I start copying some more; a larger group and an error message pops up that the device has shut down unexpectedly. The iphone is no longer showing on my computer.

I tried different USB spots on the computer; I am using an apple cord. ITunes sees the phone and will back it up et, but the computer doesn't. I will try it tomorrow at the work computer.

But has anyone heard of this before? I've never had weird problems with my phone since the 4s and I can't remember what it was; but it solved over apple chat. It's just weird.

Did you try connecting the phone to your Mac and use the “Photos” app to download all the pictures and save them in the photos app?

that’s the easiest way to back up the pictures

Second for Image Capture if you have a Mac with High Sierra (HEIC support). If you're on PC or on older Mac try settings Settings > Photos > scroll down to 'Transfer to...' > Keep Originals, then connect it again and try one more time. Could be an issue with HEIC/HEVC transfer.

If nothing works test if you have any issues with iMazing.

I am using a Windows based PC. My computer doesn't even acknowledge that the iphone is plugged into the computer. Today I plugged the phone into my work computer and it didn't acknowledge the phone being plugged in. Now it will charge and itunes will see the phone but that's it.

I took my phone to Apple store for repair. It was the first time I've been to an Apple store. I was very pleased with the service I received from the genius bar. It didn't show on the genius bar macbooks in image capture. We reset the phone's setting and it worked. If it continues we will have to actually reinstall Ios and I'm not really looking forward to that. And I picked up the cornflower blue sports loop for my apple watch. Thanks for the help guys.
