Hello all

After receiving my new iMac I had a little play (found a dead pixel slap bang in the middle of the screen which im over) then when i went do a fresh install of 10.6.1 with the disks provided, the iMac restarts once prompted and just hangs after restart.

All i see is a grey screen and the only way to get the iMac to boot is to force the disk out. I would ideally like to be able to wipe the iMac to do a custom install.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you able to try the disk in another Mac? If not, just walk into an Apple Store; I'm sure you'll be able to test it there. Maybe it's just faulty.

...if a reset doesn't work, just take it back and get one that "just works"...

thanks for the advice, i was using the wrong installation disk.

I had a copy of 10.4.10 from my old iMac! whoops!

OEM disks supplied with the system will only work with another system if it's from the same class, year and revision; also the OS version supplied is usually the earliest version that'll be compatible with that system.
