Dear all,

I'm finding it impossible to install Win XP on my mapro. I have made 3 copies of the cd and i get errors after the NTFS format when i copies files to the hard drive.

I have also tried it on the IDE hard drive as well as the SATA. There must be a problem with my original cd which is copying the fault to the copies.

Can anyone help me at all?

Thanks

Darren

Another thought, I'm going to buy a new hard drive so i could buy an OEM version? That would work wouldn't it, and home edition would be fine?

It's an old CD. I take it it's legal to download the cd and use my key?
Don't cough up the money for another copy. If you already have a Windows XP serial key then just borrow a disc from a friend. Slipstream it first if you have to and make a copy.

hard drives come with Windows now?

No, OEM software can only be installed by system installers or if the computer system is being upgraded. So if you buy a hard drive or some memory at the same time then you can get the OEM software which is usually much cheaper.

To the OP, if you download a copy of Windows online you could find that your legitimate key doesn't work since the downloaded software is a slightly different version - something to do with corporate editions or something. That one bit me in the ass with my Dell before, I had to download several different versions all because I'd left my genuine install disk halfway across the country.

in order to install windows, it is often necesary to do an indian ceremony, kinda similar to raindancing. why? cause of all the bugs in XP.

it will ward off all evil from the mac you are installing it on.

Seriously, if you find an OEM CD from a Dell tower that matches your Home/Pro license and is SP1/SP2 just copy and slipstream it. Volume License discs from work have their own key system.

Did you install all the updates as well? Really nice getting it slipstreamed up to Octobers updates.
