iPhone Unable to restore iPhone 3GS in DFU mode

On the back of the thread with the clock, i gave in & tried to restore my phone - no joy

Put the phone into DFU mode. I selected a restore that contained stitched SHSH blobs & tried restoring via this - nothing. Just kept "waiting for iPhone".

Currently the only way i can put this right seems to be to update to the dreaded iOS6 which i don't want to do but have little choice.

Why can't i restore to iOS5 the way i described?

You can use RedSh0w to make custom file with SHSH.

Except i've already done the custom file for 5.1.1. It's what i used last time. I didn't delete it & tried to jump straight to it this time & it didn't work .... at all, yet it allowed me to update to iOS6. Now i'm kinda stuck, even though i do have my SHSH blobs.
Do i need to go over the entire stitching process from the very start, even though i still have the 'end file' from last time?

SHSH file saved on Cydia server after installed app.You can do this process again with downgrade again,just use option get SHSH from Cydia in redsh0w.
