Hey all, I'm having issues with the macrumors site and push notifications as of doing a clean install of macOS Sierra. From what I can tell it's this site specifically, as I was able to go to 9to5mac.com, and apple insider.com, and even gmail and get asked if I want to receive push notifications. The other thing to notice ,is those other sites, have entries in both Safari's and system notification preferences, while macrumors does not, and doesn't even ask, no matter where I go on the site.

I have followed the troubleshooting guides, I've even googled for people posting issues. Haven't found anything though. I will add as a final thought, clearing safari and site notifications di allow me to resubscribe to the above sites in this post, but didn't make a difference here.

Thanks again,

I did some digging, and tried on El Capitan also running Safari 10, This seems to be a safari 10 issue as to why the macrumors site isn't asking to send push when I connect. It asks under Safari 9 under Mavericks, but the latest safari 10 doesn't.

Does someone from macrumors have any information on this, or is even aware of the problem? Just thought I'd update this thread since I haven't heard back. Thanks!

Push notifications have always been flaky for me, but ya, have seen several reports from readers that they're not working under Sierra. I've asked our developers to look at it.

Thanks wildCowboy, I have only had an issue since Sierra so That's why I did some digging and discovered it was more likely related to safari 10, as 9 and below work for me without issues. I was able to confirm Safari 10 by seeing the same issue in El Capitan with Safari 10 and El captain was working with Safari 9. Also something I noticed, was if someone upgrades with notifications enabled, they seem to continue to work. This seems to be related to a clean install.

Hope this helps!

Pushes should be working now...

I hate debugging pushes

Not sure if this is related or not but my Alerts seem to be stuck, it's showing 4 this morning and they aren't going away no matter how many times I read them. Additionally, I've noticed that if I go into a thread and come back out it's initially marked read, however if I reload the page it shows it hasn't been read again.

Been seeing the same kind of thing today as well. Probably not really related to Mac site notifications, but something odd is going on with the site nonetheless.

All appears to be working as it should for me now, thanks for the quick work.

I've been able to subscribe, but I'm not actively getting any updates.
As of Jan 6, this is still the case for me as well.

I'm tempted to just write a script that refreshes the main page in a different tab and checks for new headlines, but I don't want to get an IP ban or something for frequent refreshing.

Ugh. I'll take a look at it again this week.

Hey just wanted to revisit this thread and ask if notifications are unstable again ? I cleared Safari and now I don't get the notifications dialog. It works on El Capitan though. Running 10.12.4 with all current updates. The issue seems to be identical on a MacBook Pro and 5k 27" iMac .

There's a recent discussion about notifications at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/push-notifications-is-not-working.2040196/ which might have a bit more up-to-date information.
