Unable to use video chat on messages with Gmail contacts

hey,

for some reason i cant video chat with my gmail contacts. i can, however, send text messages to them. i also have a camera icon on the top right corner, but it's greyed.

edit: for some reason it says on the connection doctor, under status:

router type: restricted
this computer network setup includes one or more devices that are not fully compatible with audio and video chatting

edit2: under capabilities, i have a green "v" next to 1-1 video chat

enable 'video enhancement' in labs tab within Gmail configuration

then relaunch Safari

This is not about using safari. I'm talking about messages.
