So I want the iPad Mini 5. I have an upgrade with Sprint so off I went, only the website gave me a “Cannot process your request” error every time I tried to add it to the cart. Their chat and Twitter reps were not helpful so I called their CS.

I wish I hadn’t. It was *excruciating* The rep was very very nice but had a thick accent and was hard to understand, and she kept pushing promo after promo on me. No I don't want to upgrade my iPhone too. No I don't want Sprint Drive. No I don't want autopay. No I don't want to upgrade my phone plan. No I don't want to upgrade my data plan. No I don't need any accessories. No I don't want to add a line. No I don't want a Samsung 10. No I don't need insurance, already have it. No I don't need a mobile hotspot. I know she has to, it's part of her job but good grief. An HOUR AND TEN MINUTES later I still had no iPad because they said there was a system outage and they’d call me back.

They did and you won’t believe this. They told me I can’t upgrade to the iPad Mini 5 because it’s showing in their system as EOL (End of life, aka discontinued), and therefore it is no longer available. I tried and tried to explain that the 5 was brand new, even sent screenshots from their website, but they insisted that the iPad Mini 5 is discontinued, cannot be ordered ever and that’s that. Total ineptitude.

So I said the hell with Sprint, went to Best Buy and ordered it there. Smooth, easy, fast. Actually saved money, as they have a $25 discount for rewards members and only charged $47 in taxes while Sprint wanted to charge $135. I’d say that’s a win.

The service is fine. Their LTE gives me download speeds of 40-60mbps on my phone and iPad Pro. But the customer service I dealt with was atrocious.

I had a similar frustrating experience with them 6 weeks ago when I upgraded my phone to the XS Max. I have been real happy with my plan and the service (70mbs) - many years worth - but they kept pressing on add-ons, etc., no matter how much I kept saying no, I'm good. I know it's their job but at some point no means no, please stop.
