Just wondering if there's ever been any discussion of underclocking the iPhone to increase battery life? I'm planning on visiting Europe in a few months, and I think I could sacrifice a bit of speed if it meant I got more use out of my iPhone in between opportunities for charging. It'd also obviously be safer than trying to overclock it.

What strategies do people here use to conserve battery life when charging opportunities are rare? I guess the obvious options are decreasing screen brightness and limiting 3G data use, but I want to be able to enjoy my iPhone as much as possible on long train rides, for instance.

I also use SBSettings to close out of unnecessary processes and free up memory whenever possible, although I don't know how much of an impact on battery life this has.

I say just get a small external battery to carry with you. They can be had for about $8 on eBay...much less than the morphie and other commercially marketed iPhone battery packs.
