It seems like most of the reviews I read and some of the ones I watch come to the same consensus - Wait. They act as if the new Macs exist ONLY to be beta test machines. As a person who has waited for the "newest best MacBook next year" I have to say that in all honestly most are not calling it what it is. The greatest MacBook Pro line ever made. Before you jump all over me about apps that are not ready yet etc. hold on new hardware typically puts new software on hold for a while. So far with my workflow - (only 1 day in..) I'm being surprised with how amazing this thing handles everything I throw at it and still leaves 70% battery when I'm done. I understand there are a lot of people that use applications that are not fully ready for the M1 however the people that have the M1s now and are figuring out workarounds or just whole new ways to do things may be miles ahead of the rest with the M1s we have now and will appreciate the future iterations. The two ports... I really see this as a non issue as dongles etc can take care of that.

I understand there will be more great Macs coming out in the future BUT that is always the case- just ask the people that recently bought a maxed out 16 inch (which is what I was going to get..) how they feel about these M1s keeping up/smoking them.

And no I'm not "upset" about my purchase, there is still a return window open if I run into anything that I find to be an issue.

Bottom line, there will always be a better one right around the corner and these m1s may crap out tomorrow due to the new implementations (unlikely) so we could always make a case to wait it out for the next one.

I think M1 is made so well that we won't be surprised with future M chips. The only difference would be in rendering and gaming department in real PRO's area. Most people(98%) will be fine with M1 chip for long time.

This has me curious what will happen in about a year's time. The reason: Like with iPhones, will the current M1 move down the price scale as the M2 comes out? I can totally see a $799 12-inch MacBook with M1. Maybe it's an M1 in a newer laptop design of some sort but with the older M1 chip? This could really snag the price conscious folks.

It's already crazy value and a lot of people will upgrade. I even upgraded from old 15" to the Air and it's crazy good. The battery life and the rendering speed has bought me over. I really don't think it will have significant jump even on the next M2 chip. Apple will rather maybe upgrade other stuff like camera and 14" form factor. You know apple, they only did this because they wanted to gain momentum for Apple silicone, after the momentum, Apple will milk us again.

But you don't use Docker or homebrew or want/need to run x86 VMs I assume.

For most people there is no harm in waiting six months to give developers time to catch up. I was thinking about a MBP 16 too. Because of Covid and the switch to AS I bought a 2020 iMac instead.
