Flicking through this weeks Autocar at the station, it seems that Bugatti don't think that 987bhp and 252mph is enough, if memory serves... you pony up an extra £30k and they'll upgrade the pitiful output to 1200+bhp thus increasing the barely ban inducing 252mph top speed to 272mph.

No linksy sadly, but amazing all the same.

Jeebus.

272 is just, wow, crazy.

You know, I am in total awe of the Bugatti Veyron but for the money that thing costs I would get my pilot's license and buy one of the following:

F-86 Saber (can go supersonic in a dive!)

MiG 15 (if you're into the Soviet stuff)

...plus a Lotus Exige or maybe an Audi RS4.

Dammit, that means it will take the top speed record away from my Koenigsegg CCX

Who's gonna be the first to hit the 300 mark in a street and emissions legal production car?

Well, all I can say is thank god for that. It was poo in it's entry level config, this upgrade finally makes it one of the big boys :D

On a side note, a jet black Ferrari Enzo passed me today. I stopped, stared, said f*** (quite loudly, resulting in some odd looks from other passers by), and went on my way knowing that never again would my eyes and ears be blessed to see and hear such a beast again. O. M. F. G. Incredible.

Yeah but I bet the MPG is crap. Economy, Bugatti. Economy!

272mph  That's pretty friggin' ridiculously but no-less-amazingly fast.

Somehow I think that people who buy Bugatti's don't exactly care about gas mileage, and can afford whatever gas bills might come their way. :D

So do you have to fill up a Veyron's gas tank at the airport?

Easier to fill a derv with Jet A than to find an airport with boosted grades of avgas.

Am I the only one who's in a "I'll believe it when they actually start selling it" mode with this car? It sounds cool and all, but right now it's like a legend.

Was stunned by the car on Top Gear but left wondering one thing - what kind of lap-time would it do on the Top Gear track? We know it's fast, but, I don't know, just from the look of it I can't imagine it cornering very well. I am well prepared (and would love) for someone to prove me wrong though - the idea of a car that fast that could hold a good line is just staggering.

I think it was just too expensive a car (with too few made) for them to let The Stig race it. Shame.

I love the fact this car exists. Most people would see it as pointless, but I like that with all our current speed restrictions and enforcement, a company is blatantly ignoring their relevance.

Now I just need to get me a Veyron and an excuse to drive to Darwin.

I think letting Jeremy Clarkson driving it on public roads in Italy, France and England is much more dangerous than letting the Stig (a professional driver, remember) take it around a closed track for a couple laps.

Northern Territory's mainly unlimited baby. of course, the actual town of Darwin isn't, but there are some very long, straight roads on the way. :p

LOL. So true.

Lap times would be nice to see - it's a heavy car but AWD + all the power in the world ..... I certainly wouldn't bet against it breaking the lap record.

The Veyron @272mph v Kangaroo is something I'd like to see. Could make the 160 enzo v lampost crash seem quite tame.

Imagine what it must feel like, sitting in one of these 'new' Veyrons at the end of a very, very long runway and just planting it. :D

272mph though... that's sketchy as f**k isn't it. :p

The increasing top speeds are less relevant than they once were IMHO...I mean, in a road car anything much over 200mph is fairly useless in all but a few circumstances. 272 is just too scary to contemplate.

Of course that won't stop somebody from building a 300mph supercar someday. :D

Yeah, you could have fun with that baby on the Tablelands Highway I'm betting... ;)

Hmm, then again there's that whole "lack of gas stations" problem with the NT...

Run out of gas at 272mph and I think you might be able to roll for a while.
