For some time now, I used Google Photos as my photo backup solution on both iOS and Android. And I want to continue using that, but I also want to enable iCloud Photo Library. However, iCloud Photo Library does some things that I think might affect my Google Photos workflow.
1) iCloud Photo Library optimizes photos on the phone so they don't take up as much space. Does this mean that Google Photos is going to upload smaller versions of the photos on my phone, or will it be able to upload the originals before they are "optimized". Obviously I want the originals uploaded to both iCloud Photo Library and Google Photos.
2) When I turn on iCloud Photo Library, it's going to bring a ton of photos to the phone that are already uploaded to Google Photos from before. Will they upload again and create duplicates? How does Google Photos know which photos are new ones?
3) Is there a way to have iCloud Photo Library sync to my PC? I have the Apple iCloud program downloaded and there is an iCloud Photos folder in File Explorer. However, the only thing in there is my Photo Stream and some shared libraries. The actual photos aren't there and I can't seem to get them to sync down to my computer. What i want is to be able to keep the original photos and videos on my PC. Is this only possible using the Photos app on the Mac, or can I do it on PC?
4) What happens when I use Lightroom to import my photos once iCloud Photo Library is enabled? Will it also try to import the "optimized" photos? How will it know which are new photos that I've taken on the device versus ones that are just in the iCloud library? Is it even practical to have iCloud Photo Library enabled and be able to transfer photos to the PC in a non-Apple program?
Thanks!
