Understanding read only access in bootcamp 3.0

I'm just trying to get a grasp on what exactly read only access under Bootcamp 3.0 can do for me. Mostly, I'm concerned with using iTunes. Will 3.0 allow me to essentially manage the same library on both Mac and Windows? If I play a song on the Windows side, will the playcount carry over to the Mac side? What about adding music, creating playlists, etc? I keep Googling this topic but everything I come across pre-dates Bootcamp 3.0.

Read only means just what it sounds like, it can see the files on your Mac partition but not modify them. So you can't do the things you mentioned.

Even if you had write access to your iTunes library, are the Mac and Windows library files even compatible?

Sure, why not? Just audio and video files.

No, I mean the actual library files, where your playlists, playcounts and ratings are stored, not the media files in your library. I guess it is possible for the Windows version to read the Mac version's XML file. If this is your goal you might want to search specifically for people who have done this. You'll need a way to have write access to your Mac partition though (like MacDrive).
