I'm aware some of you have probably seen this a hundred times from what I've heard, but I'm extremely bothered. Please take a look at these photos I took of my display:

I've already had one repair done and they brought the screen out with a huge scratch behind the LCD. So they put my old one on and I go back in for another in-store repair on Sunday. Has anyone succesfully obtained a display that doesn't do this? I'm so peeved right now at spending 2,800 bucks on a computer just to discover that this may be "in spec" I really need some direction and suggestions here. Any and all would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

I have the same issue with mine. I just haven't had the time to send it in because of school and all. It is frustrating! At the genius bar the guy did say that the screen shouldn't be that way and asked if I wanted to send it in, so no it's no within spec.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's encountered this problem. And I'm glad to hear that you have actually heard that it's not supposed to be that way come out of an apple employee's mouth. I feel a bit reassured. Of course the true test will be when I pick my computer up on Sunday. I'm under the impression from what I've read on several forums, that there is not one single good display for the 17" Core2 Duo MBP. I certainly hope that I'm wrong.

Thanks for replying :)

Definately out of spec. Even my 12-inch PB has a better display, and they didn't have great screens.

I did notice that the 17-inch MBP's at the Apple store had some uneveness in the screen lighting but it wasn't as bad as in these pictures. I guess a little uneveness is normal for these models, but it shouldn't be.

Oh, it looks like a pretty normal MBP display to me, maybe a little worse but that could be the camera and lense too. Would you say that it represents exactly what you see? If it does, then I'd say you might be able to get a better one. If , when you look at it, it's a little lighter than what is represented in the pictures, I think this is how good as it gets now....for apple. I had the display on the 17MBP exchanged, but the new one was just differently bad. Sides seem to be the common problem: they're darker than the rest.

Good luck!

***update***

I took my computer in this morning for repair, and just got it back. And I'm happy to say that I now have an evenly lit screen. Viewing angles are still poor which I can deal with. To all those who were experiencing similar problems, don't give up. Keep bugging the hell out of applecare until you get what you paid for!

Thanks for everyone's help,
