Uneven color/discoloration on my macbook air m1

hi, my macbook air m1 2020 has this uneven color or discoloration on the screen. it looks like a washed out part. it just showed up randomly one day. what should i do? is this lcd problem? do i need to replace it? i hope not coz that will cost a lot. please help

Looks like hardware to me. Boot into Safe Mode - if it looks the same there, then you have some tough decisions ahead.
