err. I just noticed that when I close my new SR MBP that the right side of the lid isnt down all the way like the left side is. Is this something I can exchange?

EDIT: ok just did a forum search. it appears someone else had the same problem and the thread basically said exchange was unlikely for something so minor. Plus I ordered offline. bleh.

Not just one other person - almost every other person! If it's really bad, you probably could get a replacement, but if it's a mm or two that is not likely. The best to fix this, I think, is to add some kind of adhesive rubber/plastic stoppers where there is a gap - that will make everything feel completely solid. Not that you should have to, but this is where things are today and that's an easy solution.

My GF's had about 4-5mm of movement from side to side but after 1 week of using it it just flattened out on its own to a point where it lies perfectly flat now. Don't worry about it.

If it doesn't flatten on its own, another poster here wrote about how he used a small eraser in the middle of the screen, closed the lid, and laid a book on it overnight, successfully flattening it out.

i remember when i noticed mine was uneven. My left side didn't touch. but i realized that exchanging could mean having something else wrong and my lappy is perfect. plus now i don't even notice it anymore.

I wonder if something like the Speck SeeThru cover for the top might even flatten it out a bit? It would maybe force it into a flattened form... just an idear for anyone who continues to have problems with it.

The chances of an exchange unit not having this issue are slim to none. Nearly every MBP has a slight case of this---more often on the left side than the right, it seems.

You may also notice that the amount of gap is not necessarily fixed. It can be slightly different every time you close the lid, depending on where your fingers are on the lid as it makes contact with the latch.

This issue is so extremely common in the line that, unless the gap is really bad, owning a MacBook Pro basically means living with it.
