I'm currently at uni and am using my room ethernet connection point to access the internet. Internet access is fast (not sure of the exact speed) and so my problems shouldn't be due to slow connection speeds.

I'm not particularly good when it comes to describing stuff like this so I apologise if what I'm describing isn't at all clear! :)

Ok, here it goes:
Connection is fine in that I can access most internet sites. Those that I'm having problems with so far are; my .Mac address, my Hotmail account, retailers websites (when it comes to going to the checkout and paying for goods), and my online banking (Barclays Bank).
And so, I came to the conclusion that it was 'secure' sites that I was having problems with, but my Yahoo e-mail address is fine...

Possibly related is the fact that I cannot access iChat. Rendezvous semi-works, in that I can see people's names but cannot hold conversations with them, but iChat does not even show my usual contacts.
This is how it looks:

I'm also having a problem with MSN Messenger in that it takes ages to sign in (approx 3-4 minutes) and then once signed in I can only hold a conversation for approximately 5 minutes until I'm unceremoniously signed out without warning

When using iTunes I have a list of names under 'Shared Music' but I am unable to access their collections. I've double clicked on each name/collection and a new iTunes window opens up, but it times out and shuts the new window after a minute or so...

I know for a fact that other users (on PC's) are not suffering these problems, and so I was hoping that you guys' would be able to offer me some guidance...
I'm using a fully up-to-date (software wise) PB 1.25 installed with the revised 10.2.8 (hopefully receiving Panther tomorrow! :D).

Any help would be gratefully received! :)

Ask one of your PC mates if they are accessing the web etc via a proxy, that *may* be it, I can imagine that a uni may well have a proxy of their own.

I've got some of the same problems as you, andym172 and I'm also using an ethernet connection at uni in the UK.

I can't access any secure sites with Safari and it's getting quite annoying. However, all the other browsers work (try Camino or IE or Netscape). My uni does not support Macs, but it does show us how to set them up and their Safari page mentions that this is a bug in the current version of Safari that Apple knows about and should hopefully fix in the future.

As for MSN messanger, I get an error message after 60 seconds of trying to sign in - "You are not connected to the internet" it says.

I don't yet have a .Mac account so I can't try that, and no-one I know has a Mac so iChat is no use :(

By the way, I can't seem to view your pictures! They appear as the tiny blue Safari question marks!

Thanks for the replies guys'! :)

I made the genius decision of deleting the pictures from my host soon after I posted this thread. I've never been the most intelligent, but that's one truly stupid thing to do I'm sure you'll agree!
   :D

Will try to sort it out...

Let me know if it works when you install Panther. Apparently, Safari for Panther is 1.1 whilst we are using 1.0 with Jaguar. Maybe my apparent bug is fixed in Panther...

I'm still trying to get my Panther for £14 on the Mac OS X Up-to-date offer but I can't access the page...:D

Will do! :)

I'm hoping to get iChat sorted as well due to the fact that I've bought an iSight camera. If it won't work then it's of no current use! :(

<bump>

If anybody else can offer any other advice I'd be grateful! :)

It's more the iChat problem than anyhting else...
