Unifying iMessage

Does anyone know how to unify iMessage on ML, because as of now it is a mess. If I have a conversation with someone via Mountain Lion, it will open up as a separate contact and conversation on the phone. To make things worse, if we are conversing via laptop, the phones will be alerting constantly. Surely the application should know what device is being used. I suspect that cannot be fixed though.

However, surely there must be a way to unify the conversations. For the contacts I am talking to, in there contact settings I have stored their emails so that is not the problem. Also, for my message settings I have set it to "receive at 2 addresses" which is what it should be.

But still, it runs two separate conversations. I'm running the latest version of iOS 5 on my iPhone.

Pretty sure we have to wait until iOS6 comes out for this to happen.

I opened messages app and noticed my contacts from my phone were available to message. Just got done using both mountain lion on my macbook pro and imessage on my 4s to have a conversation with my friend on his iphone. Kept receiving the text alerts when he would message me back and I was on my mbp. It didn't add another message on my phone as yours did, however. I did think it was cool when i left my computer and went on my phone just picked up right where the conversation left off.

If your "caller ID" for messages is your phone number on your iPhone you will have two different threads. One with the conversation from your phone number and one with your email conversation. Try changing your caller ID on your iPhone to your email address. Until iOS 6 comes out and you can unify your phone number to apple ID this seems to be the best way to get things working

My friend posted my email under my contact info and it unified the two conversations on his phone.
