iPhone Uninstalled swapcameraroll, now my photos app is acting strange, help.

I installed "swapcameraroll" onto my iphone 4, 6.1.2. THAT was a huge mistake. I have no idea if it even worked the way it was supposed to. The app would crash as soon as I would open it. I uninstalled it in cydia, and now, whenever I want to delete a photo in my camera roll, I get a popup on the bottom that states, "This photo will be removed from this album, but will remain in your photo library." and gives me two boxes to click (er, tap, whatever) on, "Remove from album" and "cancel."

I installed it again, opened the app (swapcameraroll) a few times, it crashed right away each time. Uninstalled it again, and photos app is still doing the same thing.

The photo that I want to delete from the camera roll is NOT even in my photo library!! WTH!!! How can I COMPLETELY uninstall that blasted swapcameraroll?? Because obviously it has screwed up my photos app regarding deleting photos. I can delete photos fine, but the photos are not even in my photo library. I've included a picture of what happens when I try to delete a photo in my camera roll.

That message is normal because I'm assuming what the tweak does is actually move/copy photos and not provide a shortcut to the photo

if you're deleting a picture from the camera roll, once you've deleted it. plug it into the computer via usb and check if it's still there. if it's not, then the picture is deleted.

otherwise, it would be warning you that there might be another copy in another album

I looked this up and it seems it's for iOS 4.x. It creates an alternate Camera Roll (not just an album). Think of a cassette tape. There's the A side Camera Roll (your usual) and a B side Camera Roll (the flip side), both of which can contain albums. Depending on which Camera Roll is loaded at a time, a connected PC will only see the currently active Camera Roll. In this way you can "hide" an entire Camera Roll from whomever you don't want seeing it (or knowing it's even there).

My guess is that this photo is somehow stuck in the alternate unavailable Camera Roll and since that Camera Roll can no longer be accessed because the tweak has been deleted, Photo.app crashes when you try to remove it. Swapcameraroll is probably crashing on load because it was intended for the iOS 4 Camera Roll and is being used on iOS 6.x instead. Presumably Apple made changes to the Camera Roll since version 4.x. I would guess then that swapcameraroll has probably corrupted the default Camera Roll.

No idea how to fix this though, I'm just speculating.

I'm inclined to agree with Erik. Even though the app "looks" fine, that does not mean the file structure was not drastically changed by the tweak. I'd open up I file and do some investigating of the folder structure and compare it to the stock app if you can locate it.

FYI, and you probably realize this now, but before installing stuff from Cydia you must ALWAYS make sure it's compatible with your iOS version. That's rule number 1 when installing Cydia packages.

How do I make sure if it doesn't state which version it's for? Dimmer works for me except when I respring or reboot, it gets at the brightest setting. But I have activator settings for 'hold down volume" to get to dimmer's low setting, and 'hold up volume' to get dimmers brightest setting. It's nice, I like it.

Yea it's unfortunate that all the packages do not list the minimum requirements. What I do is stay on top of the latest jailbreak tweak releases so you'll know when stuff comes out. That'll give you a good basis for when searching around Cydia for stuff to install. Also, for the last 3 major iOS releases the community has out together a master tracking list of all the most popular tweaks and whether or not they are compatible with your iOS version. Just google something like "iOS 6 iOS tweaks compatibility list" or something like that. You'll find the google doc.

Outside of that, you just need to be cautious. You can always email the dev from the package's description page. I often send an email asking if their tweak is compatible with my iOS version. They usually always reply. When they don't (and give them a few days to reply just to be safe), do some googling to find out when the package's latest version was released or ask around etc.

Really, when the requirements are not clearly listed, just proceed with caution until you have more information. Of course, if something is a new release, then there's a huge possibility it works with the latest iOS version. That's why I recommend reading up on jailbreak news. Modmyi and idownloadblog are the two best places to read up on Cydia packages.

I hope this helps. Installing an old, incompatible tweak is soooo frustrating. In the absolute worst case, it can force a restore to fix your problem.

iOS 5 was 2011-2012 and iOS 6 came on in late 2012. So, if you're scanning through those sections and you see that the last change/update made was say April 2009 or May 2010 then that tweak or app cannot possibly have been made for iOS 5, let alone 6.

There are some tweaks/apps that work, but I tend not to try anything older than early 2012 and that for me is pushing it. The risk has to be worth the gain and right now the risk is your jailbreak.

Oh my gosh. I'm such an idiot. This is the FIRST thing I check to see if it's compatible. It's been a few months since I got my 5s so I totally forgot about this haha

No worries, it's all good!

I should mention that some of these devs aren't good at posting these changes. Usually at that point I pull out Google if I'm still interested. Some tweaks/apps aren't even worth the Google search.

The more recent a post about the tweak app you can find the greater the possibility that it's compatible. This is how I found swapcameraroll. There was an iOS 4 mention and most of the writeups I saw were circa 2009.

Big tip off there. Just got to do your research to protect yourself as best you can.

I found the culprit. It was a tweak called reorganize photos or something to that extent. It allows you to put photos into a different folder and also allows you to reorganize the photos in your photos app.

After I uninstalled it, the delete function is acting normal again.
