I noticed in the grid view of the apps section it has three sections now "iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Apps" (universal), "iPhone and iPod Touch Apps" and "iPad Apps."

I'm in the process of updating all my apps to see which move up to the Universal (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Apps) section. What do you guys have so far?

My list of universal apps (free upgrades) :
The ones i put $ next to are paid apps.

Air Hockey $
Dragon Diction
Ghost Radar $
iSSH $
Text Plus
Pandora
iMDB

Also have you noticed any major apps that have both ipad and iphone versions? (non universal, and therefor not free upgrades)

Labyrinth 2 HD / Labyrinth 2
FlightControl HD / FlightControl
Tetris for iPad / Tetris
Plants vs Zombies HD / Plants vs Zombies
Words With Friends HD / Words with friends

More Universal Apps that I've discovered:
Epicurious
iStudiez Pro
Wolfram Alpha

And a few iPad specific "HD" versions that have iPhone counterparts:
UNO
NOVA
Desktop Connect
Weatherbug
ESPN Scorecenter
Bloomberg
Shazam

I noticed A LOT of universal ones, but i'm not at that computer with the new version of iTunes on it... i'm stuck over here download app updates! LOL!!

I was actually getting irked at the new versions over in-app - but the boatload of universal ones helped that some. I'd still rather in-app and have just one app laying around.

Just got free updates to universal for these:

Solitaire City
42
Parachute Panic HD
IMDB
Pocket Ants
Shanghai Majong Lite HD
bs-spectrum
Chopper
Circle Theory
Delivery Satus
Dragon Dictation
SoundHound

GoSkyWatch Planetarium has a free iPad version, but they also plan a free universal upgrade to the iPhone/iPad Touch version.

Funny, my 3 favorite games, Flight Control, Words With Friends and Plants vs Zombies are paid all new "hd" versions...

I've already beaten Plants vs zombies and unlocked all the achievements, so unless they add new types of plants or new levels, I don't think I'll be buying this. Not much replay value.

Words with Friends is more of something to do while waiting, perfect iphone game because of push notifications, works well even on the small iphone screen. So, I don't think I'll be repurchasing this.

Now, flight control... I think that might be something worth repurchasing. Would be a lot more fun to play on a larger screen, plus is sounds like they put in some new multiplayer elements.

Just get Harbor Master. It's like Flight Control, and it's free for some reason.

Harbor Master HD is free because they're going to offer in-app purchase to download both new levels and to remove ads
