I know Universal Control officially has these limitations (among others):

  • No more than three devices at a time
  • At least one of those devices must be a Mac
Has anyone found any way around either of these limits?

I remember during the beta period someone (Appleinsider maybe?) released a review video in which they had somehow - maybe exploiting a glitch in the beta software - connected something like 7 devices. Has anyone tried to do this since? Is it repeatable / easy, and can it be done with the release version?

I imagine the Mac requirement is something inherent to the way the system works and not something that can be worked around. A guy can dream though. Closest I've come there is linking my MacBook Air with my iPad Air and iPad mini, and then closing the laptop's lid and using just the two iPads.

No replies! Oy. Am I the only one using this feature⁇

Interestingly, one of my iPads just randomly stopped Sidecar-ing and automatically switched to Universal Control.. and I already had two other devices in Universal Control mode. Not sure how to make this happen consistently, but it's proof the limits can be subverted.

Hm. Sidecar can be used to clip in additional devices. Cool discovery. I wonder what would happen if you then added another iPad via sidecar? Would it then auto switch to Universal Control again? If that's the case, you could theoretically add infinite iPads.
