Well, I have OSX 12.3 on MBP16/Core i9 and MBA/M1 plus IpadPro13 with IOS 15.4.

On MBP/MBA I have all 3 UC options checked in displays menu.
On IpadPro I have all 2 options checked in Airplay and Handoff menu.

Handoff option is on (MBP/MBA)

When I go to displays menu and click on AddDisplay dropdown I only see devices that can be connected via sidecar ..
All 3 devices are very close to each other ..

And YES ! All 3 devices are connected to the same Apple Account ;)

Any of you have a similar problem?

I had that issue earlier, and then realized I didn't have my iPad and MacBook connected with Bluetooth. Once I connected them it worked

All devices must be connected via Bluetooth ? Shouldn't this happen automatically when a UC connection is made ?

Well, MBA connected via Bluetooth with IpadPro did not allow me to use Universal Control ..

Ok I think that will be some issue with Bluetooth connection. Can't connect MBA to IpadPro ..
When I try to initiate BT connection, on IpadPro I get PIN code and accept connection, for second i have information that MBA and IpadPro are connected, then connected swith to not connected :-/

Im also having issues. I was having problems connecting last night, so I rebooted both my Mac and iPad and it worked. Now today im having issues again. Am I going to have to reboot every time I try to use universal control?

Found something I didn't see before.

Click on the control panel icon in top bar (the one that looks like a couple of slider switches).
Then click on the arrow to the right of the word "Display".
Then click on the device under the words: "Link keyboard and mouse to:"

Then my mouse and keyboard were shared with the iPad.

Same here, whenever my iPad or Mac goes to sleep only a reboot allows me to use UC, the feature is still in beta so I think there will be a lot of ironing out which will be worked on over the next 6-12 months most likely for it to become stable.

Hi James,

I'm not using an iPad and Mac, but rather two Macs for UC, and I find that sometimes, but not always, after one goes to sleep and I wake it, then UC will not work properly. When this happens, yes a reboot will fix it, but I've found a faster apparent solution, I execute the Terminal command, "$ pkill -9 Universal\ Control"
or "$ killall -9 Universal\ Control", and this fixes UC, at least in my hands.

Good luck,
Solouki

I understood it was meant to be enabled by default. But it wasn't for me. No idea why.

After some digging, I found this setting in display preferences. First click on the universal control button to get the pop up to display. Then check the top check box and click done. This enabled it for me.

Yes, I believe UC is not enabled by default, at least on the computers that I have installed 12.3 on, all of them required the Universal Control check box to be manually checked before it worked. On the other hand, sometimes UC is flaky and stops working even when this box is checked.
