hi, i am looking to purchase a wireless router that may be used on both adsl and cable lines. as such i don't particularly want an inbuilt modem. therefore the options seem to involve routers with an ethernet input. this is fine for cable providers as most of them supply a modem that includes ethernet output. however i am yet to find an adsl supplier that does. they just have usb output. is there some way i can convert the usb into an ethernet connection? or does anyone here know something i don't and have a better suggestion?
any help is much appreciated,
cheers

maybe i wasn't clear enough about the issue involved. the problem i have is that adsl modems only have usb outputs but at the same time i may not always be using adsl.

I have a Westell Wirespeed ADSL modem that has an ethernet connection. I've been using it for several years without problems.

An a Buffalo whr-g54 with dd-wrt (dd-wrt.com) firmware (opensource) is absolutely the best wireless router for the money.

universal wireless router

Not sure if a wireless router which can use USB and ethernet input exists but...
When I was in the UK I used an ADSL modem with ethernet output from here + Airport Express.
I'm now in the USA and use a cable modem + Airport Express. The ADSL modem is set up for UK usage and is very easy to configure.

I thought Europe was on a different standard than the States. I thought yall were on PPP-something and we were on PPPoE?

Yup, he is in the UK where ADSL is via PPPoA and the modem I'm recommending is from a UK supplier and it uses PPPoA not PPPoE.

Linksys WRT54g v.4 or below. ;)
Any D-Link router

WRT54G is great and even better if below v4. I would recomend a DLink though. I personally had bad experience with Linksys. I bought one and it wasn't working out of the box and took it back and exchanged it. After using it for like a few days, the adapter "burned" or whatever you call it, stopped working. So I've had to bring it back to the store again. I got all exchanged and sell it off ebay and got myself a D-Link. I love it and it's great. On 24-7 and had no problems whatsoever.
