Hi guys,

I had to JB my iphone in order to use Yellowsn0w so I can use my locked O2 iphone with a NZ Vodafone Sim Card

Anyway all is fine when I decided to unjailbreak my iPhone as I am returning to the UK, I did a restore and even did another DFU restore as well all restoring the original firmware

However it seems that my iphone is now sticking to my NZ carrier provider name- This is a known problem, I thought that a restore would COMPLETELY return to factory settings and contents? (See below)

How can something like this be left behind even after a few Restore processes

I've tried resetting Network settings etc but still not fixed the problem, would a Reset of ALL Settings and Contents help?

Is there a way to completely restore it so the guys at Apple won't know if I take the iPhone in?

I don't think we normal users can actually restore it to completely standard settings without a big hassle.

And they would be wrong. A correctly-done DFU restore will remove every trace of jailbreaking and unlocking.

After the restore did you setup as new restore a backup. If you restored from backup their is your answer.

Can you 100% guarantee that Apple do not posses the diagnostic software to see if a iPhone has ever been JB'n regardless of the user restoring.

There is no software that can detect if a phone has been restored using this method. Even installing one of the diagnostic device profiles won't reveal the past usage of the device, for the simple reason that the data is no longer there.

It is possible (possible, but exceptionally unlikely) that if they were to connect up JTAG cables to the board and dump all the flash that there might possibly be some sign that the phone was unlocked. Not knowing the exact details of how the current unlocking process works I can't "guarantee" that such a process isn't possible.

But let's be honest here, they're not going to pull the board and dump the flash. That's an expensive and time-consuming process (certainly costing more than a replacement phone.) Even if they did, their ability to detect modification of the device would be contingent upon the unlocking process modifying some portion of the baseband (or flash) that is not flashed by a DFU restore -- and all evidence indicates that a DFU restore will completely re-flash both.

Edit: Now that I think about it, does the iPhone board even have a JTAG port? If not, then that would make dumping even more of a pain...

Why do some people say that even after a restore their iPhones are never as responsive as they where pre-jailbreak?

Is that a complete urban myth?

As far as I can tell, yes. People find what they're looking for. If they've got it into their heads that jailbreaking is some inherently damaging process that screws everything up, then even the smallest sign of lag on a restored phone will be interpreted as evidence supporting their pre-conceived notion.

The iPhone software (as Apple ships it) isn't flawless. There are bugs and there are (still) some performance issues. If you've convinced yourself that jailbreaking has somehow permanently altered your phone, then chances are you'll be looking for these issues and will therefore notice them more frequently than you otherwise would.

From what I read on that thread, that issue has nothing to do with jailbrake. Some people who reported that issue did not jailbrake their phones.

Hello from Canada!

Hello all,

I have been reading many threads regarding Unjailbreaking issues. I am working out an issue with the abysmal battery life of my 2 month old 3g. Yes it has been jail borken and I have done a full restore so that I can return it for warranty .....however .......the tech on the phone at my cell provider (Rogers) indicated that they can tell if a iphone had been previouly jailbroken by the bootloader version! This surprises me....and maybe the fella was just bluffing. How can I check bootloader versions? And what should all versions (bootloader..modem firmware..baseband ???) be for a 3g phone running 2.2 firmware??

Thanks,
Ron

He wasn't full of it, but he was close. It's really only an obvious sign if you're running BL 3.9 on one of the late (post 45, IIRC) week iPhones. Otherwise you're golden.

With a 3G you've got nothing to worry about as far as bootloaders are concerned.

Great! And thanks for the quick response!! How can I check the BL version or the post 45 week that you speak of? Is that the 4th and 5th digit of the serial?

Thanks again!
Ron
