Hi Guys,

I downloaded a file the other day and it was a .dmg file which I think is an disk image file but when I opened it it was mounted like a drive (which I presume is due to some application on my Mac) but it doesnt recognise the file in the image. Its listed as a exec type but when I try to run it Os X asks me what application I should use to open it. Any idea's?

.dmg are Disk Images. They ALWAYS mount as disks. That's what they are for.

What is the extension on the file? .exe? If so this is a Windows executable (which would be strange as Windows cannot mount a .dmg file)...

It sounds like somebody took a Windows archive and used a Mac to create a mountable disk image. I have seen this kind of weirdness on files found on P2P services.

Where did you get the file? What is it supposed to be of?

Unknown File

Ive tried mounting the .dmg file and then dragging the application into the applications folder but no dice. I am told that there is no default application for the file type and asks me to choose one. As for the file type its not listed under get info (just the name of the file is). Preview shows a black screen and exec.

Its VPC and I got it from Limewire :-|

I'd suggest downloading a new one from a different host. My other suggestion would be to stay away from Limewire altogether :)
