I had a recent problem with an ownership so I just looked at the owners and there is a list of owners that I never noticed. I have a feeling some were added by me inadvertenly using some terminal programs that I am still a bit unfamiliar with. I suspect a P2P as being a major culprit and would like to remove them or at least know who they are or what they do. Some look pretty suspicious. Any help would be appreciated in knowing what is what, what I can remove safely, and how to remove safely. The list is as follows

brett (Me)
daemon
mysql
nobody
smmsp
sshd
system
unknown
www

I have also been getting a bunch os SPAM from online pharmaceuticals companies as well as I was looking for a cheaper perscription. I never left any email address. Did they get it through a browser cookie? I want to clean up my computer. I promise I will be good from now on.

i don't think you should remove any of the ownership permissions. i have all of those and many more. just make sure you repair permissions and you should be fine.

as for the pharmaceuticals, if you gave your email to drug stores, walgreens for example, they've been selling it out to online companies for some time now.

All of those are normal.

oh, and welcome to spam. You'll be seeing a lot more of it, it's especially fun when the porn starts coming... "increase your ***** size"... it's pretty well unavoidable-- many people keep different accounts as spam traps (when you need to give your address out to different companies) and ones for friends, that are more secure... once your email address is out there, there's no getting it back.
