Hi,

I purchased a 3gs iphone, with version 3.1 and firmware 05.11.07. The person who used it before me claimed to be on t-mobile, which obviously means that it had been unlocked. However, I can't find any evidence of Cydia or Ultrasn0w on the phone. Is there any way that I can verify that it is unlocked/jailbroken without a sim card, which I do not have?

I haven't yet hooked it up to itunes for fear of a massive fail. Should I hook it up and create a backup at this point? Do I need to be worried about an automatic update to 3.1.3 or anything like that? I need someone who has been through this process to help me avoid massively f*cking things up here. Thanks!

You can JB it and install blacksnow to unlock it if its on stock 3.1
Make sure you dont screw up cause you'd be stuck having to restore it to 3.1.3 and lose your JB and unlock ability.
When you plug it to itunes it might ask you if you want to update to 3.1.3
Make sure you click no and check the dont ask me again box.
