Hi all,

Is anyone aware of a pwnage tool update or ziphone update (or for that matter any update yet) that has the ability to unlock & change the imei on a 3g 2.2.1 bb 20.30.03
My iphone originally was 2.2 & unlocked but something went wrong after about 4 weeks & it kept rebooting itself. The only way I found to get round this was to do a restore through itunes - unfortunely, it did the 2.2.1 update at the same time & now my bb has changed to 20.30.03. I have done a firmware downgrade & unlocked using pwnage to 2.2 but bb is still 20.30.03 of course.
I am desperatly hoping the dev team or some bright spark will get around this bb firmware soon & include the ability to mod the imei like in the 1.1.4 v with ziphone.
The reason I want to change the imei in case any one asks is: I want to use my works phone sim in the iphone, problem is, somehow work have the ability to see the imei of the phone it is being used in, so I'm thinking if I could change the imei of the iphone to match my works mobile I would still get full use of the data package.

Any news, links to latest developments or info on this would be appreciated.

There is no way to software unlock the latest modem firmware.

It is software unlocked & I can install 3rd party sofware.... The problem though is the bb firmware, I'm just looking for some reasurance that someone is working on it, or does anyone know if it is being worked on.

No, it is jailbroken, not software unlocked. The unlock pertains to the baseband.

Changing your IMEI is illegal

That's not strictly true. In the US it's legal as long as you're not doing it for the purpose of accessing a service for which you are not otherwise authorized (i.e. "cloning" a phone.)

In the UK (and, IIRC, most if not all of the EU) it is strictly illegal.

Ah, Thanks for that LoMonkey, That actually makes more sense now. I was getting confused with the unlocking & jailbreaking.

I guess then.. no one really has an answer to the question of unlocking the 2.2.1 yet. :(Though I hear it is being worked on.
I found out more info that changing the imei is legal in the states as long as your not doing it to get access to services otherwise disallowed like cloning it. imei changeing in europe is illegal. Just as ppc750fx quotes above.
I was merely raising the topic for disscusion as I find it an interesting subject, & wether or not I do change the imei on my phone eventually it will be for experimental purposes. I still have use of it as it is
