I don't know if this has been posted but I have a question:

I bought this iPhone on eBay, it was unlocked so obviously I have no idea what software he used for unlocking. Now I want to upgrade to 2.0, will it brick my iPhone? or will it just re-locks the phone but still a working phone that is 2.0? or do I have to virginize it first and how?

Sorry, I'm just very confused as I'm new to this :(

I did the upgrade last night and it completely locked my phone. here I am, 15 hours later, and I still can't use my phone. I have downgraded iTunes and my phone back to 1.1.4 i have the phone working fine except for one big problem NO NETWORK!!! My phone reads that it has a sim card in it, but there is no signal, no network in the "about" NOTHING. I have tried 3 different SIM's and they all work in other phones. I don't know what to do... HELP?!?!

I reckon you need to re unlock your iPhone.

For that I can give you three options and hopefully someone else can chime in with more accurate info

1. Ziphone unlocker. This software unlock is frowned upon because the author stole code from the dev team, and it "perminently" downgraded your base band. As far as I know, the dev tool pwnage can undo that downgrade.

2. The old pwnage tool. Can do heaps, but looked harder to use than ziphone. You had to supply a firmware file?? Some one help me here. Maybe there's a nice tutorial out there?

3. Wait a few days for the new pwnage tool. There's a youtube of it floating around and it looks brilliant.

Hope for your sake someone can clear up my mistakes and help you out

Sadly when i said 15 hours, i meant 15 hours, going on 16, of nothing but un installing re-installing. I did the process posted on here of down to the dot. My phone did not want to cooperate at all. Finally this morning I got it to the point where iTunes recognizes the phone with no problem, the phone is acting like it should (It refused to get out of the restore stat for the longer time). The only thing is the absolute no signal. No network in my "settings" no "T-mobile" on the top left corner. NOTHIN. I have tried 3 different kinds of unlocking programs/steps as well. I dont know what else to do. This is driving me crazy!
