After a search, all I can find is about unlocking 2.2.1 and 3.0

I have not updated my firmware from 2.2(5G77) to 2.2.1 yet, so is there any way to unlock my iphone? any links?

Or should I just update the firmware to the latest 2.2.1 then unlock?

thank you guys

There's an iClarified guide to unlocking the 3G here.

As it says, do not use iTunes to upgrade your iPhone to 2.2.1 first or it will be come unlock-able. You'll have to do it with PwnageTool to ensure the baseband doesn't get upgraded at the same time.

can I just unlock the iphone without jailbreak? or I have to jailbreak before unlock? thanks

No, the only 3G unlock method requires you to jailbreak it first since the method to unlock comes in the form of an application available in Cydia (the source for 3rd-party apps for jailbroken iPhones).
