I have searched hard to find if there is any way to unlock the iphone and use verizon as my carrier. I have found that you can unlock the iphone, but you can only use the ipod and wi-fi. What is the point of this? So, is there any way to get around at&t?

My understanding is that unlocking the iPhone to work on carriers other than AT&T requires physically opening the device and performing surgery on it. Even then, the iPhone is a GSM device and would not work on a CDMA carrier like Verizon.
