Unlock/Jailbreak iPhone 2G with Rock vs. Cydia

Is this even possible? I've read that Rock is considered a better alternative to Cydia and I'd like to try it out.

Really? All I want to add to my iPhone jailbreak-wise is the MMS hack. From what I've gathered I need to re-restore to 3.1.2 and then download and run Blackra1n?
