Hi i was just wondering, im considering buying an iPhone, whats the unlock status at the moment for a UK one? Can it be done yet? Or do the unlocks not work with the 1.1.2?

Thanks

Aww cr*p. I was checking them out today and absolutely loved it (More than I thought I would). I'm locked into my Orange contract till Jan 8th so will have to wait till then.

you can make it to use any 02 sim card (PAY AS YOU GO or CONTRACT) and then just divert your calls to that if that helps ? ... im using that option at the moment until a unlock is out.

downgrade the baseband to 1.1.1 its not that hard~~~

The problem with that is the UK iPhone has a completely different baseband to its US counterpart thus, a US 1.1.1 baseband may render a UK iPhone completely useless.

That said, there's plenty of British people running US iPhones on UK networks so it could be possible.

Unlock process for new uk iphone 1.1.2

I am looking for some advice on how to unlock a uk iphone 1.1.2 model its only 2 days old from o2 shop . I have tried to download the 1.1.1 ipsw file ( understand this is needed to unlock phone ?) to my laptop (windows xp) but when i try to open the file it won't how do i find the correct format to open this file or is there any other way i can unlock the iphone to work with any o2 sim card . I'm new to this computer lark so a simple step by step guide would really help a computer numpty like me .

There is really only one true way to actually unlock an O2 iPhone at the moment which is to buy something that is called a turbo sim. You can find them for like £90 on ebay at the moment. It is all because of the baseband.

I have manged with my o2 UK iPhone to activate it with version 1.1.2 to work with any o2 sim card. I have only found one method to do this with Windows XP And Vista although there is an easier way to do it with MAC but no one has come out with a proper way of doing it for windows.

If you like I can go through with you step my step on how to do this. You can add me to msn if you like. My msn address is sambates@3020.co.uk. Once you have done it once it is really straight forward.

I think the iPhone elite team are currently working on a new anySIM program to unlock UK iPhones to all networks and should be available soon. This is what I am going to wait for to get the full unlock and use with my Orange sim card.

So if you need help jailbreaking it with a windows pc with version 1.1.2 then add me to msn.

Cheers
Sam

Except the 1.1.1 firmware is not easy to find...

1.0.2 yup 1.1.1 no..

1.1.2 out of box CANNOT be software unlocked at this time. The software methods described will allow you access to the interface without contract, and allow install of custom apps, but DOES NOT unlock the sim, which means you cannot use SIM cards other than the carrier you purchase the phone from.
