Hey so I have an iphone 6 plus with IOS 8.1.2 and I Jail broke it a year plus ago, my question is can I now unlock my iphone so I can change provider? or do I have to unjail break it and restore it.

As far as I know you need to do it through your provider, you can't unlock your phone by jailbreaking now.
 
nope, sorry. have chat w the carrier, prob they will unlock it for free.

No, there is no software unlock available.
Last software JB unlock was for the iphone 4 on iOS 4.0 over 5 years ago.
You can contact the carrier that it's locked to and request an unlock from them.
Or you could try to purchase an IMEI unlock if it's available for it.
