I bought a refurb iPhone C from Walmart.
It is UNLOCKED...called Virgin Mobile and was told
if you did not get the phone from us...it probably won't work.

I just need the minimum plan.....who do you recommend?

If you are saying that you believe that it will only work with Virgin, then why are you asking for provider recommendations? Your provider will be Virgin.

Or did I miss something?

1) called virgin...they say it will NOT work...only their phones
2)need a very inexpensive plan that is okay with an unlocked phone.

Unlocked 5C probably will only work on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US. Verizon models also have the SIM card slot unlocked, but if it was just advertised as unlocked that's probably not what it is.

Prepaid plans tend to be the cheapest so I'd look into those with AT&T or T-Mobile.

If you only need talk and text T mobile has a prepaid plan that is 3.00 per month. Each 3.00 is 30 minutes of talk or 30 texts, you add more for how much you think you will need. I have not seen any plan where you can pay less.

I believe the minimum is 10.00 but it is good for 3 months.

I have an att plan that is 40.00 if you allow it to be taken out automatically from your card, 45.00 otherwise, that is unlimited talk, text and data. The "unlimited" data is really 3gb fast and then throttled.

There may be a cheaper "unlimited" plan out there, not sure. The 3.00 plan is I believe is the one you can get and pay the least.

As long as the phone is truly unlocked, I would look into Straight Talk pre-paid plans to see what best fit your needs.

T-Mobile has a $30 plan with 100 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data (throttled to 2G speeds after 5GB). It doesn't include BingeOn, but it does include Music Freedom so you can stream all the music you want without using your 5GB of full speed data, and speed tests don't count against your full speed data either.

Then there's Cricket, which uses AT&T's network. The cheapest plan they offer is $35/month with auto-pay and that gets you unlimited everything, though you only get the first 2.5GB at full speed, though full speed is only 8Mbps. Still good for really everything you need on a phone, including streaming HD video.

The last thing I can suggest is going here and checking your IMEI number. It it passes their check, you can get some good free plans with them. You pay a one-time fee and that's it as long as you don't incur overages. I paid $29 one time for my plan and now I get 4000 minutes, 4000 texts, and 4000 MB (about 3.91GB) for free every month. It uses Sprint's network, so you'll probably get the worst coverage with that, but it's hard to beat free.

All of those plans are as cheap or cheaper than Virgin Mobile, with Cricket offering MUCH better coverage, so your purchase wasn't a waste.
