Those that bought their Moto X from Motorola unlocked (this means you have no carrier logo's on the back of your phone and when you plug it in to your computer the folder for the phones data will read "XT1053"), here is the official OTA OS Update to 4.4.2. (This includes Developer Edition phones of course).

Follow these directions:
  • From your Moto X or PC, download the OTA file from here: Blur_Version.161.44.25.ghost_row.Retail.en.US.zip I highly recommend downloading via PC, vice your phone. Once the download is complete, plug your phone in and transfer the file to whatever folder you want. Usually I place it in the "Download" folder.
  • When the download is complete, power off your Moto X
  • Next, boot into bootloader mode by holding Volume Down and Power
  • At the bootloader screen, use Volume Down and scroll to Recovery, then press Volume Up to select it <- DO NOT use Power button to select here as you would normally expect to do. Use the Volume up button as described
  • Once you rebooted into recovery mode you will see Andy the Android with the Yellow triangle ! icon. Hold Volume Up and press Power to show the recovery menu
  • Use Volume Down to highlight 'apply update from sdcard' then press Power button to select
  • At the Choose a package to install screen, use the Volume buttons to highlight 'Download/' and press Power
  • Use the Volume buttons to highlight Blur_Version.161.44.25.ghost_row.Retail.en.US.zip and press the Power button
  • The update will start installing and needs roughly 5 minutes to complete.
  • When your Moto X reboots, you will have the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat installed.
I just did this and it worked perfectly. Here is my Moto X updated to the latest T-Mobile update running via an AT&T nano sim.

**REMEMBER, THIS IS FOR STOCK (NON-MODIFIED) and UNLOCKED, GSM ONLY MOTO X USERS. If you are using a carrier branded phone or running a custom recovery, DO NOT download this.

HIGHLIGHTS of the update:
Added support for printing photos, Google Docs, GMail messages, and other content via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cloud printers; a battery life bug fix that a small number of users on Android 4.4 experienced; and a bug fix for e-mail services like Microsoft Exchange to take care of intermittent delays in data synchronization. Release notes are available at Motorola’s customer support website.

Any idea when the official release is coming OTA?

If you are on T-Mobile, it could be at any second. Depends on how they roll it out.
AT&T though? Who knows. They suck.

I haven't looked into Verizon or Sprint. Never had a CDMA based phone to worry about those carriers.
